A: YES!! This speaker is Night Club Quality as far as sound is concerned. However, it's a pain to use!!! You must have an internet connection and it must be near the wi-fi signal to use. To set it up it MUST be plugged directly into the internet connection or forget it. There is no Bluetooth. Also, you can plug directly from a device, but the device MUST be connect to internet since you can only play it using the Sonos app and you must be connected to the internet to use the app. If not for the sound I would have retuned it. If your internet signal drops out, the music stops and must be restarted all over again. (I know this question is a year old, but I thought someone might find the input useful)
A: Hi, and thank you very much for purchasing all of the Sonos you have, and for you question. If you're using the Sonos Fives as surround sound speakers, you'll want to put those behind where you sit to enjoy Tv.
Q: Will this work if it is paired with a Play 5?
A: The Sonos Five can live on the same Sonos system and be grouped with Play:5 (Gen 2). You can not stereo pair the Sonos Five with a Play:5 (Gen 2) as the internals are different and will not allow the two to stereo pair.
A: You can absolutely still get stereo separation with these paired and set horizontally. The speaker knows its configuration and smartly adjusts its digital sound processing to get the best sound. Vertical orientation gets a more pronounced "sweet spot" which is great for critical listening. Horizontal orientation still provides with stereo separation but gives you a much wider sound stage which is great for filling a whole room or a party with music!
A: Yes the Sonos software will allow you to access local music https://support.sonos.com/s/article/257?language=en_US
A: This defines overkill. You really only need the arc, the sub, and two 1’s
Q: Is there a microphone in the five?
A: No there is not

I’ve been upgrading my home audio to an all Sonos system. I was looking into replacing my HomePod and had opted for a pair of Sonos Ones. I didn’t get enough sound out of those so I returned that pair and bought a Sonos Five. For those people trying to fill a bigger space the Sonos Five has you covered. It’s the biggest speaker in the newer generation Sonos line (not counting the sound bars). It sounds great! It has crisp clear highs and deep bass. I was wondering if I would eventually need to buy a Sub to go with it but I’m more than happy with the lows. It doesn’t have any smart voice features but I honestly don’t miss them, trying Siri to understand or play the music I wanted was always hit or miss. Now I just take my phone out and use the Sonos app or Airplay directly from Apple Music. The hardware is top notch. I was never a fan of their older industrial design but ever since the latest generation versions came out I have to say they nail my aesthetic design.

Now that I’ve had this speaker in my kitchen for several weeks I can give this an honest review. That being said I truly love this speaker. The white modern look blends really well in a deep corner of our kitchen countertop. As for the sound it’s rich and detailed even at an extremely low volume. I really enjoy that I can hold a conversation and listen to music with such fullness. There in no need for an additional subwoofer. The volume you can achieve with this speaker is more than most people will need I would be extremely surprised is anyone were disappointed. The speaker is more than capable of bass you can feel in your chest. I keep the eq for the low end at -2. I enjoy bass. Mids are clear and smooth and highs are crisp yet smooth. The sound can charge from track to track depending on the recording and amount of compression. The Sonos app works well and playing you favorite music apps is a breeze. The app itself takes a little bit to learn how to navigate but is fairly comprehensive. It’s a $500 speaker so my expectations were fairly high. I have to say they were met. I was fortunate enough to purchase this at $399. So I would say it was a value.

Sonos offers high quality music and mind blowing preformace. When i first saw this speaker, i tought to myself it would sound like its size but no, this speaker sounds like its worth 10x the price. Sonos offers true play which automatically collaborates this speaker using your iPhones microphone and lets you customize its eq. You can customize the bass from -10 all the way to +10 aswell as treble. Sonos 5 also lets you pair up to several speakers using the infinity button on the back or the app. You can even pair 2 Sonos 5’s for stereo sound. This speaker also provides a 3.5 jack so you cna plug your computer, phone, turn table, etc into it. Sonos has always offered reliable sound and sounds incredible no matter where you put it. I definitely STRONGLY recommend you buy this prodcut. I would never ever want to return this speaker.
